Bible Journaling - Leviticus 19 & 20

In Leviticus 19, God lays down the law for the Israelites. Literally. It is a chapter filled with rules and regulations which they had to follow, on how to conduct themselves. This chapter is followed by one in which a list of punishments, for foreseen transgressions, are spelled out. I decided to label these two chapters together with the single word 'Purity.' I again use my die-cut machine to cut out the letters and then I stamp some decorations around it. I use a stamp pad to stamp the background and work throughout with a very limited palette. What makes these pages interesting, is that I actually made an error, which turned out much prettier than my original idea. I tell you more about this in the blog.

This is how these two chapters look in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I prepare the pages with Dala Clear Acrylic Gesso.

My pages now look like this.

I colour the illustration in the left margin with Mingyun markers.

My pages now look like this.

I then use the stamp pad of an Adirondack Lights pad by Ranger to stamp the background.

I use this set of alphabet dies by Couture Creations to cut the lettering with.

This is where I make the mistake. I intended to put double-sided tape at the bottom of the blue cardboard, but inadvertently, stuck it to the right side of the cardboard.

I laid the lettering on the cutting plate and used masking tape to hold it in place.

Then I put it through my Go Cut & Emboss machine.

This is how the die-cut letters come out.

I realized my mistake and quickly cut another set of letters.

I now had two sets of letters cut out.

I pulled the double-sided tape's backing paper away and fixed the 'correct' set of letters to the page.

Then I glued their tops with Dala Craft Glue.

I had realized how pretty the white backing paper was and decided to use these 'wrong' sides of the letters anyway.

I then decided to use this set of stamps by Clear Stamps, as well as Ranger Archival Ink.

I decorate the empty margin surrounding the lettering.

I use a Chizzwick stamp mount to mount the stamps.

My completed pages.

Bible Journaling - Leviticus 18

Leviticus 18 is a chapter that really calls a spade a spade. It is about forbidden sexual practices. The idea here was that God's chosen people were to conduct themselves differently from the nations around them, and be holy, just like their God is holy. I did some simple stencilling and colouring on this page, as well as to cut some die-cut lettering with my Go Cut & Emboss machine. I use a restricted colour palette and allow my own designs to be dictated by those already found in the Inspire Praise Bible.

This is what the chapter looks like in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I treat the pages with Dala Acrylic Gesso.

Once dry, the pages look like this.

I use TouchWood, Mingyun and Superior markers to colour and blend the illustrations in the Bible.

My page now looks like this.

I use Tim Holtz Distress Stain to colour the backgrounds of the pages.

I use an alphabet set of dies by Couture Creations to cut my lettering with.

I lay the letters on the paper on top of the cutting plate.

I tape the letters in place to prevent them from moving.

I have also slipped a sheet of black cardboard under the letters, so that each letter will be cut in both red and black.

I put the sandwich through the Go Cut & Emboss machine.

This is what it looks like coming out of the machine.

I use Dala Craft Glue to glue the letters into the Bible, starting with the black letters.

I use tweezers to lay the red letters on top of the black ones, but slightly off centre, so that the black letters appear like a shadow to the red ones.

I then use this set of acrylic stamps by Clear Stamps,

I use Ranger Archival Ink to ink the stamps, having mounted the stamps on a Chizzwick stamp block.

I use a Mingyun marker to colour some of the stamped images.

I then reach for this stamp set by Clear Stamps.

I use one of the border patterns under my lettering.

The page now looks like this.

The completed layout looks like this.

Bible Journaling - Leviticus 16 & 17

I love chapter 16 in Leviticus. It is a chapter that deals with the annual sacrificial lamb. It is the only day in the year when the high priest was allowed to enter the Most Holy place in the temple and to make atonement for the sins of the people. The chapter also tells us that there was a second goat, which were to carry the sins of the people into the desert. The next chapter then deals with the sanctity of blood in which is life, and says that we are forbidden to eat blood. These chapters, especially the first, is a foreshadowing of Christ and the sacrifice He would become for our sins. I opted to use my Go Cut & Emboss machine to cut some die-cuts to journal these pages with. I used a silver cardboard as well as wood-grain one. My elements deal with love (hearts), the aspect of time (annually), the inclusiveness of forgiveness (globe), and the foreshadowing of Christ (cross).

The two chapters look like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I prep the pages with Dala Clear Acrylic Gesso.

My pages look like this once the acrylic is dry.

I use a green fountain pen to underline some key verses in the chapter.

I will be using Tim Holtz Distress Ink to colour the background of the pages.

I simply stamp the two pages with the ink pads.

My pages now look like this.

I pull some dies out from my stash that I might be using. The dies are by X-Cut, Kaizer Craft and Couture Creations.

I find a roll of wood grain paper to cut the cross from.

I put it through my Go Cut & Emboss machine.

I looks like this in between the cutting plates.

I lay the rest of my elements on the cutting plates.

I lay a sheet of silver cardboard on top.

I put it through the Go Cut & Emboss machine.

My elements come out looking like this.

I use Dala Craft Glue to fix the elements to the pages of my Bible.

This is what my finished pages look like.
