Bible Journaling - Exodus 40

Exodus 40 sees the completion of the tabernacle with all of its utensils. It also sees the glory of God descending on the tabernacle and remaining there, in acceptance of the people He had chosen for Himself. Henceforth, the Israelites would move or stay, according to the cloud resting on, or lifting from the tabernacle. The Inspire Praise Bible starts with a very pretty page to colour. I add precious few journaling accents after colouring, but still liked the outcome so much that I figured it was worth showing you what I had done.

Exodus 40 looks like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

Having run out of clear gesso, I seal the pages with Dala Acrylic Gel Medium.

I use a combination of Derwent Coloursoft pencils and a metallic pen to colour the flowers in the illustration. I found this very frustrating, as the Gel Medium seemed to have formed a 'plastic' layer that resists the pencils and the pen.

I persist on my chosen course, as the smoothness of the page finally allows me to use my colouring pencils, something I had not been able to do on the rough texture created by the Zellen Clear Gesso.

I am adamant to make this work and tackle more flowers with the pencils.

When I keep finding the same results, I finally give up on using the pencils.

I decide to use the metallic pens to continue the colouring. Sadly, the Gel Medium resists even these pens and I have to admit defeat.

I then decide to use the Mont Marte Adult Colouring Duo Markers. These will sit on the page, but the colours are muted when compared to applying it to untreated paper. Still, it is more colour than I have managed to get on the paper up to this point.

I continue colouring with the Mont Marte markers.

I resort to colouring the background as well in an attempt to make the colours appear brighter.

I will be using Dala Acrylic Drawing Ink to paint the lefthand page with. I wish to have a paler blue to work with and will therefore mix it with white ink.

I  mist the page with water to dilute the ink.

I mix the ink in a small container.

I paint the page and wait for the ink to dry.

I use a white gel pen to make dots in the margin.

I add petals to the dots, turning them into flowers.

I colour the centres of the flowers and make small lines inside the petals.

The I add Dandelions to the design.

I add a single Dandelion to the opposite page to tie things together.

The completed layout.

Bible Journaling - Exodus 39

In the second last chapter of Exodus, the clothing is made for the priests. At the end of the chapter, Moses inspects the work and yet another type of inventory is taken in this book. I opted to journal this page in the colours that keeps on repeating in the chapter, namely blue, purple and red. I also drew a golden cord to frame the page in, as this item repeats itself in the chapter. I then stamped and coloured some items of clothing onto the page, before ending it with some paper circles which I turned into buttons. I a still sticking to easy methods of journaling that can be replicated by anyone.

Exodus 39 looks like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I start to seal the pages with Zellen Clear Gesso, but run out of this medium. The 300 ml bottle has lasted me just short of two long Bible books. I use Dala Acrylic Gel Medium to seal the pages completely.

The pages look like this once the mediums are dry.

I slip some protective sheets under the pages to protect the rest of the Bible.

I will be using Dala Acrylic Ink on the backgrounds.

I mist the pages with water so that I can dilute the ink on the pages.

I then paint the three colours across the two pages.

I wait for the ink to dry before drawing a curvy line around the pages.

I draw a second curvy line intersecting the first at intervals.

I fill the gaps with diagonal lines. I use a golden Rolfes Metallic Marker for this.

I the find these cake decorating tools to use as stamps.

I colour the stamps with the Rolfes marker.

Then I mist the ink with water.

Then I stamp the image onto the Bible.

The result.

I cover the page with stamps.

I then decided to use Croxley Twistable crayons to colour with, but the mediums that I painted onto the pages, resisted the crayons.

I was left with a bit of a mess, even after blending.

I then turned to my Gelatos from Faber Castell.

These covered the areas better.

I blended the Gelatos with a wet wipe.

I had these circles in my stash, stamped from home-made papers.

I used Tombow glue to glue them onto my page.

Then I used Sharpie marker to add 'holes' to the buttons.

I used an Artline marker and a white gel pen to add highlights and shadows to the butttons.

The completed layout. In hidsight, I wish I had stopped before colouring the stamped images.

Bible Journaling - Exodus 38

In Exodus 38, the building of the tabernacle and its utensils are continued, The chapter ends with a concise inventory of what was used in the building process. I have not done much in the form of writing yet in my journaling process and decided to focus on this for today's blog. I am still looking for easy ways to journal, that anyone can do, regardless of artistic talent, or the lack thereof.

Exodus 38 looks like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I seal the pages with Zellen Clear Gesso.

The pages look like this once the gesso is dry.

I slip protective sheets under the pages to protect the rest of the Bible.

I will be using Dala Acrylic Ink on these two pages.

I mist the pages with water, to make the colour of the ink less intense once I paint it on.

Then I paint my pages with the ink.

I will be stamping the letters onto the pages with Crystal Craft Ink.

I use clear stamps so that I can see what I am doing.

Once I have stamped the word 'INVENTORY', i find some stamps to decorate the page.

The decorations must not everwhelm this page.

I will use a fountain pen to write the lists of inventory down with.

My first list is of the materials used. My pen is a black Olika.

I make bullets for my lists, using Liquid Drops 3D Pearls.

Next I make a list of the articles that were made.

Again I use 3D Pearls for bullets.

The last list is of the artisans involved in the process.

I then stamp some decorations onto the page.

I use Mont Marte and Sharpie markers to colour the words. These colours repeat the colours of the 3D Pearls I used.

The completed layout.
