Bible Journaling: Leviticus 25

Leviticus 25 is a very interesting chapter in the Bible, because it calls on people to stop relying on their own efforts, and to trust God to provide for them instead. In the first part of the chapter, God introduces the Sabbath Year. During this year, there was to be no planting or harvesting. If the Israelites followed these precepts, then God undertook to provide for them in abundance in the year preceding this year. Then God introduces the Year of Jubilee, to be commemorated every 50th year. In this year the land which God had allocated to each family, should be returned to its rightful owner. A person could only buy someone else's property for a period of time (price determined by the amount of harvests to the next year of Jubilee). This meant that an Israelite could get temporary relief from poverty, without falling into permanent bankruptcy. This coincides with the last part of the chapter which talks about people who had willingly enslaved themselves to others because of financial difficulties. In the year of Jubilee, these people were also to be freed, not only the land. The Inspire Praise Bible has two very charming designs printed in both margins of this chapter and I was left to simply colour these and do some transparent stenciling over the text, for my journaling.

The chapter looks like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I treat the pages with Dala Acrylic Clear Gesso.

When dry, the pages look like this.

I use TouchWood and Mingyun Markers to colour the illustration in the left margin of the Bible.

I use the same markers, as well as a Superior Blender to colour the illustration in the right margin of the Bible.

My pages now look like this.

I wish to paint a very feint background colour onto the pages and opt to use some yellow watercolour paint for this purpose.

I paint the whole background and then have to wait for the paint to dry.

The pages look like this once the paint has dried.

I use a sponge dauber to stencil a design over the text of the page with transparent Adirondack Earthtones ink.

I use Ranger's Archival Ink for the leaves.

If your are scared that the stencil will move during the process, secure it temporarily with Pres-tik to the page.

I stencil both pages in succession.

My completed layout.
