Bible Journaling: Numbers 26

Numbers 26 is a long and tedious read of a census taken of the Israelite troops. At the end of the chapter, we also have a census of the Levites. It reads very repetitive and one has very little interest in what is contained in the text. Yet, from an historical point of view, these lists are of invaluable importance, as it gives us something against which to check our discoveries. I enjoy how the NLT has summarized this chapter into as short a passage as possible. I use die-cuts in my journaling, and focus on the concept of family and relationships.

The chapter looks like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I prepare the pages with Dala Clear Acrylic Gesso.

Once dry, the pages look like this.

I underline a key verse in the passage, that I know will become important in the following history. The verse is 26:33 and reads like this:
(One of Hepher’s descendants, Zelophehad, had no sons, but his daughters’ names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.)

I also underline verses 64 and 65 with a Croxley Gel Pen:
Not one person on this list had been among those listed in the previous registration taken by Moses and Aaron in the wilderness of Sinai. 65 For the Lord had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

I then use a Faber-Castell Gelatos stick to scribble all over the pages.

I use a damp make-up sponge to blend the Gelatos into a soft background colour for the pages.

I bought this set of die-cuts eons ago, and kept the packaging. I now cut out the packaging to use as die-cuts and glue them into the Bible with double-sided tape.

I add some fabric flowers with Tombow glue.

The completed pages.
