Three different Bible Journaling techniques in one blog!

It has been a while since my last post and I thought I'd splash out a bit and share three different techniques of doing Bible Journaling in this blog; combining die-cutting with colouring, combining stamping with water colour painting, and stenciling. Enjoy!

Our first passage is in Genesis 12:10-20 where the spotlight falls on Sarai, Abram's wife. Abram conspired with Sarai to lie to their Egyptian hosts, because he feared they would kill him to claim her for themselves, as she was such a beautiful woman. I don't know how old Sarai was at this stage, but we all know her to be a woman who gave birth at a ripe old age. I therefore opted to use a stamp and die-cut set of a collection of funky old(er) ladies to journal this passage. I stamped the images on the back of shiny packaging paper.

I then took the dies apart and fitted them on the stamped images to test the layout.

I then proceeded to colour the stamped images with alcohol markers.

This is the what the coloured images looked like.

It was now time to put it through the die-cut machine!

The images were weeded and popped out of the dies.

I then glued the images into the margin of the Bible and inked the bottoms of the images to prevent them from appearing to be floating in mid-air.

The second passage was taken from Exodus 35:30-35. In this passage Moses informs the people of Israel that God had chosen Bezalel, the artisan, to head up the construction of the temple and its utensils, along with some assistants. These artistic craftsmen were appreciated for their skill and artistry. I opted to use a stamp set depicting art tools and mediums to illustrate this passage. The images were stamped directly into the Bible.

I then inked the background of the images very lightly in a very pale shade to turn it ever so slightly away from stark white.

I opted to use water colours to paint the stamped images as this was more true to the nature of the images.

The third and last passage was taken from 1 Corinthians 15:30-34 where Paul refers to himself as having fought wild beasts in Ephesus. I used a stencil of the Colosseum to serve as a stark reminder of the atrocities of the times. The image was first stenciled in Terra Cotta.

I then touched parts of the image with Rust.

The tiniest touches of Pesto was used to compliment the previous colours.

I removed the stencil.

I anchored the image with Coffee Brown.
