Bible Journaling: Numbers 22

Numbers 22 is a fascinating chapter. The Israelites travel to the plains of Moab where they pose a threat to the Moabite King, Balak. King Balak then seeks out the support of a known prophet/witch-doctor, called Bileam, to come and curse the Israelites. Bileam must have had quite a reputation if one considers the large amounts offered to him to do so. However, despite the fact that Bileam was not an Israelite, or a servant of the God of Israelite, he announces his reluctance to speak against the God of the Israelites. At last, after persuasion, he agrees to go to Balak, but on the way he encounters an angel of God, with a drawn sword, to stop him. He can not see the angel, but his donkey does and tries to avoid the angel, for which he is beaten. Then follows the well-known passage of the conversation between Bileam and his donkey. This is certainly one of the passages that leaves one with more questions after reading it, than when you arrived at it. But the story continues in the next couple of chapters, even though we sometimes tend to forget this as we get too hung up on a talking donkey.

The chapter looks like this in the Inspire Praise Bible.

I treat the pages with Dala Clear Acrylic Gesso.

Once dry, the pages again look like this.

I scribble Faber-Castell Gelatos over the pages.

The colour I used was Snow Cone.

I then spritz the pages with water.

I use a dry make-up sponge to blend the damp Gelatos.

I then use a Mont Marte Dual Tip Adult Colouring Marker to draw a sword in the left margin.

I colour the sword with Mont Marte markers.

I use a white Posca Marker to add highlights to the sword.

I use a grey Mont Marte marker to add a shadow to the sword.

I then find stickers to illustrate the donkey telling Bileam to stop.

I will use W&M Clear Alphabet Stamps, with a Ranger Archival Ink Pad and a Chiswick stamp mount to stamp a sentiment on the page.

I stamp the word STOP.

The completed pages.
