A love story

God woke me up in the morning
just as the new day was dawning
He had a wondrous tale to share
of how He loved all, everywhere.

He walked with me down memory lane
starting with creation all over again,
of how He talked with Adam and Eve
and how their sin broke His heart with grief.

He reminded me of new beginnings
when it seemed as if it were the last innings;
He spoke of Moses, Elijah and more,
of law and prophet and keeping score.

But then His voice turned really low
as He led up to the climax of the show,
for this was when Jesus was introduced
to be beaten, rejected and badly abused.

Yet, His love was never more clearly shown
as when God gave Himself to save His own,
as He bled on that cross for what we had done -
God did not even spare His own Son.

But this was not yet the end of the tale
for God had more mysteries yet to unveil;
His love would not end on a wooden cross
as if Jesus’ death was a defeated loss.

Jesus rose from the grave as He said He would
and that’s when He gave death the boot
He forgave us all and wiped the slate clean
an example of love the world had not seen.

Orphans is not what He would have us be,
He gave His Spirit for our sanctity -
the Spirit would teach us what was God’s way,
teaching from within us, for there He would stay.

Still, we have not reached the conclusion
of a tale that started with creation’s confusion,
for we await the Son’s triumphant return,
an occasion for which we passionately yearn.

You see, this love is not a one-sided one,
coming only from God, the Spirit and Son
No, it reverberates in our human soul
for we love Him too, who made us whole.
