Die Bybel se verhale is nie losstaande eenhede nie, maar deurlopende skakels wat saamspan om 'n prentjie te skets van God se verhouding met die mens; 'n tipe legkaart met woorde geteken.

Too polite!
I was contemplating whether or not I should share this thought I had today, but here goes. I think we are too polite. A while ago a man stole my mom's credit card at the ATM in a ruse of trying to help her. I was watching from the car, got suspicious and was just in time to help her stop the card when it finally dawned on her that it wasn't in the machine, but gone with him. Despite both her and my own suspicions, we both remained polite to the thief. Until it was too late of course, but by then he was too far away to hear us or be bothered by it.
Today a Zimbabwean man came to the house. He was from the same church we attended until a short while ago. When he learned that my mom was suffering severe back pain, he politely offered to pray for her healing. Prayer has always been welcomed in our house and this occasion was not going to be the exception. We all got up and stood in a small circle, holding hands. This polite, well-spoken man changed into a mighty warrior when he started praying. Gone was all the politeness. He made no excuses, but let 'sickness' understand exactly Who was in command. He prayed with a fervor that inspired me and left me wondering when politeness had rooted itself so deeply into my life that even my prayers had become weak and feeble compared to what they had once been.
So, this is a call to myself and anyone else who have become bogged down by politeness. Let's pick up the weapons of our warfare and march boldly into our promised land. Our God is able. Our God is mighty. And the weapons of our warfare are mighty to tear down strongholds and every lofty idea that goes against the knowledge of God. Let us lead into captivity every thought to the obedience of God (2 Corinthians 10:5).
